Dorado STEM Academy programs can be organized for an existing group of homeschool students in Dorado.

Families may bring together a complete group, begin with a few interested students, or request a program for an established homeschool community. Choose from an existing Dorado STEM Academy program or inquire about a custom experience within science, engineering, gardening, hydroponics, emergency medicine, or collaborative mural painting.

Dorado STEM Academy provides the curriculum, instruction, tools, materials, enrollment process, and family communication. The participating families provide the learners, an appropriate location, and a schedule that works for the group.

Why Organize a Private Pod?

A parent-organized pod allows families to create a substantial enrichment experience around the children, schedule, and community they already know.

It can be especially helpful for families who:

  • Already have several children interested in the same subject

  • Want meaningful weekday enrichment designed for homeschool students

  • Prefer a small and familiar learning environment

  • Have access to a suitable home or community space

  • Want more depth than a one-day workshop or introductory activity

  • Would like a complete educational program without having to plan or teach it themselves

A private pod can begin with one parent who has an idea. You do not need to have every detail—or every student—confirmed before contacting Dorado STEM Academy.

Dorado STEM Academy may also develop a customized experience for a group whose interests, ages, schedule, or goals do not fit an existing program exactly.

Custom requests may be considered within:

  • Science and engineering

  • Mechanics and physical systems

  • Gardening and hydroponics

  • Emergency medicine and first aid

  • Project-based physical science

  • Collaborative mural design and painting

A custom program must fall within the instructor’s professional experience, be suitable for the students’ ages, and be practical within the available schedule, location, budget, and safety requirements.

Custom does not necessarily mean starting from nothing. An existing program can often be shortened, expanded, or adjusted around a group’s particular interests.

Complete and Partial Groups are Welcome

 

Bringing a Complete Group

A complete group offers the simplest route to launching a pod. The families already know one another, the students are within a compatible age range, and the group has identified potential days and a suitable location.

Once the program, schedule, enrollment, and host location are approved, each family completes its own registration and pays Dorado STEM Academy directly.

Beginning with a Partial Group

Families may also inquire with only part of the eventual group in place.

For example, a parent may already know four interested children but need additional families before the program can begin. When appropriate, Dorado STEM Academy may advertise the remaining spaces through the website, interest list, or local homeschool networks.

Additional enrollment cannot be guaranteed, and a program will not begin until its required minimum enrollment is reached.

Starting with an Idea

Parents are also welcome to inquire before contacting other families. Dorado STEM Academy can first determine whether the proposed subject, ages, season, schedule, and location are workable. The parent can then share accurate program information with prospective members of the group.

What the Organizing Parent Does

 

The organizing parent serves as the initial connection between Dorado STEM Academy and the group.

The organizer typically helps to:

  • Identify the program or subject of interest

  • Estimate the number and ages of participating students

  • Gather general schedule availability

  • Identify a possible host location

  • Introduce the program to other interested families

  • Direct families to Dorado STEM Academy for official enrollment

  • Share practical information about the host location

The organizer is NOT expected to design lessons, purchase materials, collect tuition from other parents, enforce Dorado STEM Academy policies, or manage every family’s registration.

What Dorado STEM Academy Handles

 

Dorado STEM Academy manages the educational and administrative parts of the program, including:

  • Curriculum and session planning

  • Instruction and demonstrations

  • Tools, equipment, and program materials

  • Safety procedures

  • Family enrollment forms

  • Tuition collection

  • Program policies and agreements

  • Communication with registered families

  • Student materials and projects

  • Instructional adjustments within the agreed program

  • Final presentations, exhibitions, or celebrations when included

Each participating family maintains a direct relationship with Dorado STEM Academy rather than relying on the organizing parent to act as a financial or administrative intermediary.

Providing a Location

Dorado STEM Academy is a mobile educational enrichment organization and does not operate from a permanent facility.

Private pods are held in a participating family’s home or another parent-provided location in Dorado. Depending on the program, a suitable space may need to provide:

  • A safe indoor or covered working area

  • Tables and seating appropriate for the group

  • Access to a restroom

  • Reasonable arrival and pickup access

  • Adequate ventilation and lighting

  • Electricity or water when required by the program

  • An outdoor area for selected tests or activities

  • A space that can tolerate normal project noise and controlled mess

  • A secure area away from pets, very young siblings, and unrelated activity

  • Permission from the property owner or community administration when applicable

A location review may be required before the pod is confirmed. Not every program requires every feature listed above.

How the Process Works

1. Submit a Pod Inquiry

Tell Dorado STEM Academy about the program, students, possible schedule, and location you have in mind.

2. Review Program Feasibility

The proposed ages, group size, location, season, schedule, materials, and safety requirements are reviewed.

Additional questions may be handled by email, or a brief conversation may be arranged when the request is more customized.

3. Receive a Program Proposal

If the pod is feasible, the organizing parent receives a written summary of the proposed program, including:

  • Program title and scope

  • Student age range

  • Number and length of sessions

  • Proposed schedule

  • Minimum and maximum enrollment

  • Host-location requirements

  • Tuition and included materials

  • Deposit and payment deadlines

  • Enrollment timeline

  • Important policies

4. Open Family Enrollment

After the proposal is accepted, each participating family receives an enrollment link. Parents complete their own registration forms, review the program agreement, and pay Dorado STEM Academy directly.

5. Confirm the Pod

The pod is officially confirmed after the required number of registrations and deposits has been received and the host location has been approved.

If additional students are needed, the remaining places may be announced to other interested families.

6. Begin the Program

Registered families receive the final schedule, location information, preparation instructions, and any program-specific details before the first session.

Group Size and Scheduling

Exact enrollment requirements depend on the program, student ages, location, and materials involved.

How Things Work is generally designed for 8–12 students. Junior How Things Work is intentionally limited to no more than 8 children. Custom and seasonal programs may have different minimums and maximums.

Programs are generally scheduled on weekdays during homeschool-friendly hours or as summer intensives. Availability depends on the instructor’s existing teaching and program calendar.

Submitting an inquiry does not reserve dates or guarantee that a requested program can be offered.

Pricing and Enrollment

Private-pod pricing is based on:

  • Program length

  • Session duration

  • Group size

  • Curriculum and preparation requirements

  • Tools and consumable materials

  • Location and travel requirements

  • Degree of customization

  • Final presentation or event requirements

The organizing parent receives clear pricing before family enrollment opens.

Each family normally pays Dorado STEM Academy directly. A deposit reserves each student’s place after the pod has been approved and enrollment has opened. The pod is confirmed only when the minimum number of families has completed registration and submitted the required deposits.

No payment is required to submit the initial private-pod inquiry.

FAQs

 

Do I need a complete group before contacting you?

No. You may inquire with a complete group, a partial group, or simply a well-developed idea. A program cannot be confirmed until its minimum enrollment is reached, but feasibility can be discussed earlier.

How many students do I need?

The number varies by program. How Things Work generally requires at least eight students, while Junior How Things Work is limited to a maximum of eight. Custom programs receive their own enrollment range in the written proposal.

May the pod operate in my home?

Yes, provided the home has an appropriate working space and meets the requirements of the selected program.

Can you help us find other students?

When appropriate, Dorado STEM Academy may announce available spaces through its website, interest list, or homeschool contacts. Additional enrollment cannot be guaranteed.

Can our group request different times or session lengths?

Requests may be considered, but changes can affect the curriculum, materials, tuition, and educational value of the program. Any modification will be addressed in the proposal.

Is submitting an inquiry a commitment?

No. The inquiry begins the planning process. Neither the family nor Dorado STEM Academy is committed until a proposal has been accepted and the required enrollment steps have been completed.

Do all students need to be the same age?

Not necessarily, but they should be within a developmentally compatible range. A five-year-old and a fourteen-year-old would not ordinarily participate in the same pod, even when they share an interest.

Do I have to collect money from the other parents?

No. Each family normally registers and pays Dorado STEM Academy directly.

Can we use a clubhouse or community room?

Possibly. The group must have permission to use the space for the planned activities, and the location must provide the necessary tables, utilities, access, and safety conditions.

Can we request a subject that is not currently listed?

Yes, provided it falls within the instructor’s professional experience and can be offered safely and effectively. Submit the idea through the custom-pod portion of the inquiry form.

Is this a drop off program?

That depends on the students’ ages, host-location arrangement, program requirements, and the final family agreement. Expectations will be stated before enrollment opens.
